Three World Premieres So Far in 2019 for 26 Year Old Peng-Peng Gong

The Philadelphia Orchestra, with members of the Shanghai Philharmonic, gave the January world premiere of Peng-Peng Gong’s Symphony No. 10, Peking Fantasy. The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote of the work: ”...direct musical language...gorgeous...highly original sounds...vivid episodes.” Six World Folk Songs and his Symphony No. 8 were premiered by the Shanghai Philharmonic on April 27th. Gong's Symphony No. 10 Receives One of a Kind U.S. Premiere

Peng-Peng Gong's Symphony No. 10: Peking Fantasy, will receive its U.S. Premiere on January 29 with a joint Chinese New Year concert featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra led by Kensho Watanabe, side by side with the Shanghai Philharmonic, Liang Zhang conductor, at Kimmel Hall. The work is a grand orchestral homage to Peking Opera, the crowning heritage of traditional Chinese performing arts.

Twenty-six year old Peng-Peng Gong is China’s most performed and up-and-coming young composer. In 2014, he received his Bachelors of Music Degree from Juilliard, and became the only undergraduate in the history of the Juilliard School to have all of his scores purchased and displayed in their library. Two of the composer's most recent major works, his Viola Concerto and Sixth Symphony, both received premiere performances with the Shanghai Philharmonic on April 29, 2017.
